Receiver Installation
- Execute the mounting and wiring procedure for a KTI receiver to a power unit.
- Correctly position the receiver antenna to ensure signal transmission.
- Verify proper grounding and polarity during the DC motor and solenoid connection process.
- Sealed enclosure — Housing for mounting the receiver to protect it from environmental exposure.
- Wrench set — Secure the red wire to the start-solenoid terminal and the black wire to the motor housing.
- Drill and fasteners — Mount the receiver and ensure the antenna is positioned outside of any metal enclosures.
- Multimeter — Confirm the power unit is grounded directly to the battery negative terminal as required.
The remote comes preprogrammed.
How It Works
Antenna Signal Integrity
The receiver's antenna must be mounted outside and cannot be housed within a metal box. Metal shielding interferes with the preprogrammed remote's ability to communicate with the receiver.
Polarity and Solenoid Integration
The red positive wire must share the same start-solenoid terminal as the battery positive cable. This ensures the receiver has a direct power path for activating the hydraulic functions.
Grounding Requirements
System stability depends on the power unit being grounded directly to the battery negative terminal. The receiver's black negative wire must connect either to the motor housing or the specific negative terminal of a 2-terminal DC motor.

| Symptom | Check | Spec / Expected | Likely cause & fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Remote fails to operate the unit despite being preprogrammed. | Inspect the antenna placement. | The antenna must be mounted outside, not in a metal box. | RF shielding from a metal enclosure is blocking the signal. Basis: KTI Wireless Instruction Manual (P/N KWR-003) |
| Receiver does not power up. | Verify red wire placement at the solenoid. | Connect the red (+) wire to the same start-solenoid terminal as the battery positive cable. | The receiver is not receiving positive DC voltage due to improper terminal selection. Basis: KTI Wireless Instruction Manual (P/N KWR-003) |
| Intermittent operation or motor failure to start. | Verify the power unit ground path. | Make sure the power unit is grounded directly to the battery negative terminal. | Insufficient ground path for the high-draw DC motor. Basis: KTI Wireless Instruction Manual (P/N KWR-003) |
| Functions operate in reverse or not at all after wiring. | Confirm pin connector and pendant status. | Connect the pin connector to the power unit and test Up/OUT and Down/IN. | Pin connector is loose or the remote pendant was connected before initial testing. Basis: KTI Wireless Instruction Manual (P/N KWR-003) |

Common Bay Mistakes
- ✕ Mounting the antenna inside a metal toolbox.
- ✕ Connecting the black wire to a painted surface instead of the motor housing or negative terminal.
- ✕ Failing to ground the power unit directly to the battery negative terminal.
- ✕ Connecting the remote pendant before testing the receiver's Up/OUT and Down/IN functions.
- ✕ Attempting to program the remote when it arrives preprogrammed.
