ABS Operation, OneControl Pairing and Driver Notifications
- Explain wheel-specific ABS control and brake-signal pass-through.
- Pair the correct OneControl app using the device-name branch.
- Verify connection status and resolve common setup problems.
- Smartphone — Scan the manual’s app-identification QR code, enable Bluetooth and complete OneControl pairing.
- Flashlight — Read the Bluetooth information and Device Name label and inspect connector condition.
- Digital multimeter — Check module power and ground using the product’s service instructions if an electrical connection problem is suspected.
- Wheel chocks — Secure the trailer against unintended movement during stationary inspection and pairing.
Lippert ABS is intended to improve trailer stability during severe braking. When a wheel approaches lockup, the system reduces the tow-vehicle brake signal at that specific wheel to maintain rotation. If ABS control is inactive or the module has no power, the tow-vehicle brake signal passes through to the trailer brakes. A proxy load supports compatibility with tow-vehicle brake controllers.
When installed according to instructions, module autoconfiguration predicts tire size, track width, axle count and module orientation. If equipped, True Course detects trailer sway and applies trailer brakes independently of the tow vehicle; it operates automatically and defaults to tow-vehicle brake input while ABS monitors wheel speeds. If equipped, Dynamic Brake Boost temporarily increases brake torque during hard braking to maximize braking without wheel lockup.
The tow control system becomes active when the module is connected to the tow vehicle and the trailer’s 7-way connector. The mobile app provides status and notifications. Enable smartphone Bluetooth and use the manual’s find-your-app QR code to identify the appropriate OneControl family app. Locate the Bluetooth information and Device Name label so the selected device can be checked against its identification.
After installing the app, accept the license agreement and sign in or create an account. Open Add And Explore with the plus icon and follow RV Connection prompts. A successful connection to a device beginning LCIABS connects both the RV and ABS; Ready beneath the device on the home screen confirms this. If the connected device begins LCIRemote, continue through Add And Explore to Anti-Lock Brakes and follow the pairing prompts with the tow vehicle in Park. Tap CONTINUE after successful pairing.
If a trailer profile is required, the app opens the Trailer Profiles screen automatically. Choose Add custom trailer, enter Vehicle Name and Trailer Name and confirm with OK. To unpair, choose UNPAIR on the device landing screen and confirm with OK or UNPAIR, depending on the app version. If no unpair option is visible, forget the device through the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
How It Works
ABS control and pass-through
As a wheel approaches lockup, Lippert ABS reduces the tow-vehicle brake signal at that specific wheel to maintain rotation and support trailer stability during severe braking. Maintaining rotation helps preserve tire traction rather than allowing the tire to slide. When ABS control is inactive or the module has no power, the tow-vehicle brake signal passes through to the trailer brakes; the proxy load supports brake-controller compatibility, so ordinary brake response alone does not prove ABS is powered.
Automatic configuration and equipped features
When installed according to instructions, module autoconfiguration predicts tire size, track width, axle count and module orientation; this does not replace correct installation. If equipped, True Course detects sway and applies trailer brakes independently of the tow vehicle, operates automatically and defaults to tow-vehicle brake input while ABS monitors wheel speeds. If equipped, Dynamic Brake Boost temporarily increases brake torque during hard braking to maximize braking without wheel lockup.
Activation, pairing and notifications
Read and follow the product instructions and safety labels: the tow control system becomes active when the module is connected to the tow vehicle and the trailer’s 7-way connector, while the app provides status and notifications. Enable Bluetooth, identify the appropriate OneControl family app using the manual’s QR code, locate the Device Name label, then install the app, accept its license agreement and sign in or create an account before opening Add And Explore and RV Connection. A successful LCIABS connection connects both RV and ABS and shows Ready on the home screen; an LCIRemote connection requires continuing through Add And Explore to Anti-Lock Brakes, keeping the tow vehicle in Park during ABS pairing and tapping CONTINUE after success.

Diagnostic Chart
| Symptom | Check | Spec / Expected | Likely cause & fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| The intended device cannot be confidently identified during setup. | Enable smartphone Bluetooth, use the manual’s find-your-app QR code and compare the selected device with the Bluetooth information and Device Name label. | Use the appropriate OneControl family app and verify device identification against the label. | Bluetooth may be disabled, the wrong app may be selected or a nearby device may be mistaken for the trailer. | The RV connection succeeds, but ABS pairing is not confirmed. | Read the connected device name. For LCIABS, check for Ready beneath the device on the home screen; for LCIRemote, continue through Add And Explore to Anti-Lock Brakes. | LCIABS connects both RV and ABS after successful connection; LCIRemote requires the separate ABS pairing branch. Keep the tow vehicle in Park during ABS pairing and tap CONTINUE after success. | The technician may have stopped after the RV connection or failed to verify the documented confirmation. | Setup opens Trailer Profiles instead of proceeding directly to normal app use. | Follow the automatically displayed profile prompt rather than treating it as a connection fault. | Choose Add custom trailer, enter Vehicle Name and Trailer Name and confirm with OK. | The app requires a trailer profile before setup can continue. | The device needs to be unpaired, but the expected control is missing. | Look for UNPAIR on the device landing screen. If it is absent, open the phone’s Bluetooth settings. | Confirm app unpairing with OK or UNPAIR, depending on app version; if no unpair option is visible, forget the device through phone Bluetooth settings. | The app version may present a different confirmation or no visible unpair option. Common Bay Mistakes
- ✕ Do not treat normal trailer braking as proof that ABS has power.
- ✕ Do not stop at RV pairing when the connected device begins LCIRemote.
- ✕ Do not perform ABS pairing with the tow vehicle out of Park.
- ✕ Do not assume True Course or Dynamic Brake Boost is equipped.
