LESSON 5 OF 12

KWR Bluetooth Installation and Operation

YOU WILL BE ABLE TO
  • Install the receiver, antenna, and battery connections correctly.
  • Pair the application and verify each connected control.
  • Distinguish control handoff, low-voltage lockout, and sleep behavior.
TOOLS AT THE BAY
  • Digital multimeter — Check battery polarity and supply voltage, and investigate voltage loss in power and ground connections.
  • Insulated hand tools — Make battery and receiver connections with power isolated, avoiding accidental terminal bridging.
  • Socket and wrench set — Secure mounting hardware and battery connections using the applicable hardware instructions.
  • Wire stripper and crimper — Prepare and secure wiring terminations where installation requires them.
  • Work light — Inspect mounting locations, connector seating, wire routing, and the direct battery ground.

The Bluetooth instruction manual covers KWR-005, KWR-006, KWR-007, and KWR-008, although the key fob can differ by model. Mount the receiver preferably inside a sealed box, away from the motor. Mount the antenna outside the box and as high as possible.

Connect the red positive wire to battery positive and the black negative wire to battery negative. The hydraulic power unit must have a direct ground connection to the battery negative terminal. Disconnect the handheld pendant from the power unit and connect the wireless receiver in its place. The pendant can optionally connect to the receiver; test its operation when connected.

Use the QR code to install the KTI Bluetooth control software. Enable Bluetooth, open the application, and use the plus symbol to scan the receiver QR code removed from the shipping box. Enter the default pairing code, 123456, when requested. Return to the equipment list and select the intended unit. The control panel displays the unit, connection status, system voltage, and Up and Down controls. If setup cannot be completed, operate the receiver's On/Off button and repeat the setup.

Only the phone or the key fob can control the unit at one time. Exit the phone control panel before using the fob. Before returning to the application, wait at least 5 seconds after releasing the fob button. Below 9 V, application operation is disabled, the phone rings and vibrates, the fob buttons become unavailable, and the receiver buzzer sounds; the handheld control can still be used. The LED is green above 9 V. After 5 minutes without activity, the Bluetooth module sleeps. Wake it with any fob button or by turning the device power off and back on.

How It Works

Mounting and electrical integrity

Mount the receiver preferably inside a sealed box away from the motor, with the antenna outside the box and as high as possible; this helps protect the receiver while reducing signal obstruction and exposure to motor interference. Connect red to battery positive and black to battery negative, and give the hydraulic power unit a direct ground connection to battery negative because resistance in the return path can cause voltage loss under load. Replace the power-unit pendant connection with the receiver, optionally connect the pendant to the receiver, and test the pendant when connected.

Pairing and control ownership

Use the QR code to install the KTI Bluetooth control software, enable Bluetooth, open the application, and use the plus symbol to scan the receiver QR code removed from the shipping box; enter 123456 when requested. Select the intended equipment and confirm the displayed unit, connection status, and system voltage before testing Up and Down with the movement area clear; if setup cannot be completed, operate the receiver On/Off button and repeat setup. Only the phone or key fob can control the unit at a time: exit the phone control panel before using the fob, and wait at least 5 seconds after releasing the fob button before returning to the application.

Lockout and sleep are different conditions

Below 9 V, application operation is disabled, the phone rings and vibrates, the fob buttons become unavailable, and the receiver buzzer sounds, although the handheld control can still be used. The LED is green above 9 V; a working pendant does not prove that the wireless supply condition is acceptable. After 5 minutes without activity, the Bluetooth module sleeps; wake it with any fob button or by turning device power off and back on, keeping the movement area clear when using a control.

⚠ CAUTION Do not expect simultaneous phone and key-fob control; below 9 V, the application and key fob are unavailable even though the handheld control may still be used.

Application setup cannot be completed.Confirm receiver power and enabled phone Bluetooth. Verify that the receiver QR code from the shipping box was scanned through the application plus symbol, enter the pairing code when requested, and select the intended equipment; operate the receiver On/Off button and repeat setup if necessary.Default pairing code: 123456.Possible incomplete setup, incorrect receiver selection, or receiver state requiring the documented setup retry.

The fob will not take control from the phone, or the application will not resume after fob use.Exit the phone control panel before trying the fob. After releasing the fob button, allow the required delay before returning to the application.Only the phone or key fob can control the unit at a time. Delay before application use after fob release: At least 5 seconds.Control ownership has not been released or the handoff delay has not elapsed.
Basis: KWR-005-English-Instructions
Application and fob operation are unavailable, with phone alerts and a receiver buzzer.Check the displayed system voltage and confirm supply voltage with a multimeter. Recognize that continued handheld operation does not rule out wireless low-voltage lockout.Wireless low-voltage lockout: Below 9 V. LED is green above 9 V.Low supply voltage has disabled wireless operation.
Basis: KWR-005-English-Instructions
Bluetooth becomes inactive after the equipment sits unused.Determine whether inactivity preceded the symptom. With the movement area clear, wake the module with any fob button or turn device power off and back on, then verify operation.Bluetooth sleep delay: 5 minutes of inactivity.Normal Bluetooth sleep behavior may be mistaken for a failed receiver or lost pairing.

Common Bay Mistakes

  • ✕ Do not substitute a chassis-only ground for the required direct battery-negative connection.
  • ✕ Do not enclose the antenna with the receiver or mount the receiver beside the motor.
  • ✕ Do not expect simultaneous phone and fob control or skip the handoff delay.
  • ✕ Do not condemn the receiver before distinguishing low-voltage lockout from sleep.

Quick Check

Practice only — not scored.

The application remains on the phone control panel, and the technician wants to use the fob. What is the correct action?
The phone rings and vibrates, the receiver buzzer sounds, and wireless controls stop working while the handheld remains usable. What should be checked first?
The bay reports: Application setup cannot be completed. Which check addresses this condition?
